Diacritic

Diacritic: adj. and n. a diacritic mark or simply a diacritic is a graphic sign (e.g. dot, accent, cedilla) placed near a simple grapheme of the alphabet to indicate a different phonemic value or to distinguish homographs. Diacritics exist in Arabic, Devanagari, French and Hangul, among others.
